The article that I chose to discuss is about how Amazon plans on adding 800 new jobs to its tech hub in Austin, Texas. Amazon's tech hubs allow Amazon's reach to span all across the country and allow them to develop and improve their technologies at a faster rate. Amazon has been funneling money and resources into its tech hub in Austin in recent years, with Austin being a potential landing spot for the new Amazon headquarters that is now being built in Virginia. In the last four years, Amazon claims that over 1,000 new jobs were created in Austin. Therefore this expansion is nothing new. Amazon also plans to build a new office in Texas by 2020, which would allow for many more jobs to be available in the future. Amazon's tech hubs pave the way for Amazon to continue to innovate and develop new technologies. Because Amazon is primarily a technology company, they would need to continue to expand their tech hubs in order to maintain their status as among the top technology companies in the world.
I believe that it is good that Amazon is continuing to improve their technology hubs. This benefits both the consumers and the company, as the company is able to develop more products at a faster rate, and the consumer has more products made available. Austin was also one a primary location for Amazon to promote its business because of how favored it was during Amazon's hunt for a new location for its new headquarters. Austin was one of the finalists in that search. Continued funding into Amazon's tech hubs promotes continued innovation and growth in the technological sphere. However, if Amazon focuses too much of its resources on these tech hubs, then there could possibly be an imbalance within the company. Amazon needs to continue to be able to balance all of its activities and productions in an efficient way in order to maximize the company's potential.
Since 2011, Amazon has contributed over seven billion dollars to its Texas operations. This also includes funding towards infrastructure and increases to employee wages. This shows Amazon has already put a lot of funding towards Texas and plans to use it for important operations. Which shows that these additions to the Austin tech hub shouldn't be a surprise considering how much Amazon has contributed to its centers in Texas. The Austin tech hub is clearly important to Amazon. Why else would they be funding it so well and adding so many more jobs? This is good because the Austin tech hub has a lot of potential to create new technologies and make improvements to technology that Amazon has already developed.
In conclusion, Amazon is making a bold move by adding more jobs to its Austin tech center. But I think this move will pay off in the long run because Amazon will have more resources at its disposal in order to develop and improve new technologies.
