In the New York Times article ‘The Rise of the Robot Reporter’ the author touches upon the recent introduction of artificial intelligence being used to generate journalism. The article focuses on Bloomberg’s system called Cyborg that helps reporters produce thousands of articles by dissecting financial reports the second they are produced and create a news story immediately that includes the most important facts and figures from the reports. Since this system is automated and not a human it does not need sleep or lunch breaks and works tirelessly to get reports out faster than Bloomberg’s rivals such as Reuters. Many other companies are experimenting with adopting this method, but there is no reason for the journalists and other employees to panic about losing their jobs. The usage of automated technology is said to only be used as more of a productivity tool, doing the scheduled report analysis, giving the journalists more time to get out of the office and focus on bigger stories. This use of automated technology in journalism is something that I can see many different markets using, as anyone wants to give up their countless hours of busy work. Not only is it completing the busy work, but AI is creating more accurate reports and it is able to complete much more. Journalists as well as people in the business world spend countless hours digging through data and previous reports as they are creating their reports. With these tedious tasks being done by AI, the journalists and other faculty are able to spend more time focusing on more important company objectives and increase their efficiency. It has been noted that there have been zero typos found in the articles written by artificial intelligence. Not having to go through and edit articles is another benefit of AI as it is a time and labor saver. I don't think there are many reasons for companies not to invest in an artificial intellligence journaling system, helping with competition, productivity, and efficiency.
